Course Rational

This is an introductory Inquiry and project based course in Psychology.  Students will be introduced to various topics, and given the opportunity to explore some ideas in depth to create weekly projects that show their understanding. Formative assessment is in the form of weekly open book quizzes and journal entries. Students will create a final project that showcases their understanding of one of the topics covered.

Personal Psychology 20 and General Psychology 20 are each worth 3 credits, for a total of 6 credit for the semester.  Personal and general psychology may be taught separeately or concurrently, or paired with Psy 30.

 

Materials and Expectations

All content and resources for this course will be displayed using a variety of online formats. Students are expected to use a computer for research and presentation of projects. They will be expected to be Independent, creative and co-operative leaners. It is also essential that students become proficient with various technology and software available and supported at school, such as presentation software like keynote, iMovie, the Adobe Creative suite and Word or Pages.  The class will have some opportunity to use the media lab this year, and will have access to the software and assistance, when equipment is available. Students are expected to adhere to the media class guidelines for classroom and equipment use.  A final project will replace a final exam.

In each topic there may be one or more of the following types of activities:

  • A: Quiz type assignment : You may refer to your notes, and lessons to complete these
  • B: Weekly Topic Projects:  create a variety visual infographics, or presentations
  • C: Journal Responses:  your personal responses to specific topics, articles or ideas.
  • D: Assignments or in class activities

 

Final project.  Movie/animation presentation: Your movie may be created in several ways:

    • Create a keynote or Powerpoint, narrate, and export as a movie.
    • Use images, and voice overs in iMovies or MovieMaker.
    • Use photos, images or photo or paper animations,  Get creative!
  • This movie will be uploaded to your google Drive and shared with your teacher.
